The fifth annual CTO Crystal Coast Youth Fishing Tournament will be Aug. 12 and 13 with angler bucket and wrist band pickup at Chasin’ Tails Outdoors in Atlantic Beach. 4-7 p.m. on Aug. 12. Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation is holding their 11th Annual Free Family Fly-In on August 12, 2022 at the Havelock Tourist & Event Center. This is an evening of fun for the entire family. The event begins at 5pm with various STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities for the youth to enjoy exploring. These activities will include robots, a flight simulator, Cherry Point EOD, drones and much more. The evening ends with a family movie, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatball, on the big screen inside the facility. There will be giveaways, door prizes and school supplies given out at the event.
The Swansboro Friends of the Library will host a “Bag Sale” on Saturday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Swansboro Branch Library. Cape Lookout National Seashore – a certified International Dark Sky Park – in partnership with the Crystal Coast Stargazers and Island Express Ferry Service will host Astronomy Night on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Harkers Island Visitor Center. The New Bern Historical Society will present, for their latest Lunch & Learn on September 14, author Betty Vaughn who will fill you in on the Mystery of Sarah Slater, who once lived in New Bern. The Carteret County Annual Beach Run is a series of seven races perfect for all ages and skill levels. Race options include 1 Mile, 5K, and 10K (Race #7 is 1 Mile and 5K only). All runs take place on the sand in Atlantic Beach. Participants have the option to register for all seven races, or separately. Registration for all seven races includes an official 2022 Beach Run T-Shirt. Runners in individual races have the option to bundle in T-Shirts at checkout. OCEAN — Carteret County residents and businesses have an opportunity to help the N.C. Coastal Federation rebuild coastal habitat by donating oyster shells. The NCCF is asking for donations of oyster shells to the federation’s recycling program. Once collected, the federation works with partners to return the shells to the water, where they provide new habitat for fish and shellfish. In Carteret County, the federation is accepting shells at the NCCF headquarters at 3609 Highway 24 in the Ocean community.
